How to overcome your fears and get your personal success

Trying to fight the fear of failure is always a challenge for everyone.

The comforting fact is that all fears are learned, there is no single person that is born with fears. Fears therefore can be overcome. This can only be possible by practicing self-discipline repeatedly with regard to fear until it is got rid of.

When a person is filled with fear, it causes them to avoid taking risks of any kind and to reject any form of opportunity when available. In simple terms, they are afraid of failure hence they won’t take any chance that comes their way.

There are many other fears hinder us from achieving our potential such as,

  • Fear the loss of love or
  • Fear the loss of jobs and financial security.
  • Fear embarrassment or ridicule by friends.
  • Fear rejection and criticism of any kind.
  • Fear the loss of respect or esteem of others.
  • Fear the loose of friends and close relations

These are some of the fears that hold us back throughout life.

I have outlined some tips that will help you overcome your fears and get back on the path to your success:

Fear hinders action

The ultimate reaction in a fearful situation is giving up, a person is hopeless and ends up saying that I can’t.

This fear is responsible for most failures and it stops us from taking action. It is experienced physically, or by way of feeling the emptiness in the stomach. That sharp awful feeling is so strong that we are unable to take any action.

The physical manifestations of these negative habit pattern are experienced from time to time and we may at times take them lightly as being normal which shouldn’t be the case.

Fear shuts down the brain

Whenever a person is in the state of fear, they feel like they have been caught in a snare with no way of escaping. This fear paralyzes action. It often shuts down the brain and causes the individual to be helpless.

Fear is a terrible emotion that undermines our happiness and can hold us back throughout our lives. It takes away our self-confidence and enslave us perpetually.

Envision yourself in the state of courage

By visualizing yourself being courageous, confident and competent with something that you are usually fearful, your visual image will eventually be accepted by your subconscious mind as instructions for your positive performance.

Your self-image, the way you see yourself and think about yourself, will eventually tilled towards a positive outlook, this is so because you are feeding your mind with these positive mental pictures of yourself performing at your best.

Use the law of reversibility

The Law of Reversibility says that “If you feel a certain way, you will act in a manner consistent with the same feeling.”

But if you act in a manner consistent with that feeling, even if you don’t feel it, the Law of Reversibility will create the feeling that is consistent with your actions.

This is one of the greatest breakthroughs in success psychology. You develop the courage you desire by disciplining yourself repeatedly to do things that you fear until that fear eventually disappears and believe me you, it shall disappear. Consistence is the key issue in this whole process.

Do not delay to confront your fears

Once you decide to confront your fears and act in spite of your fears, you have the key to happiness and success, it is just provided you don’t back out or get distracted.

One of the best exercises you can practice is to identify a person or situation in your life of which you are afraid and resolve to deal with that fear situation immediately.

Do not allow it to make you unhappy for another minute. Resolve to confront the situation or person and put the fear behind you, after all you now know and have a free mind whether the outcome was positive or negative.

Move toward the fear

The moment you identify a fear and discipline yourself to move towards it, it grows smaller and more manageable. You are in total control and are able to handle it with confidence.

What is more interesting is that, as your fears grow smaller, your confidence grows.  Soon, your fears lose their control over you and congratulations, you are a champ over your fears.

In contrast, when you back away from a fear-inducing situation or person, your fear grows larger and larger and in no time it will be enormous. The thought of it will leave you trembling.

Soon it dominates your thinking and feeling, preoccupies you during the day, and often keeps you awake at night. It can have damaging effects on your general health wellbeing due to stress and anxiety.

Deal with the fear directly

The only way to deal with a fear is to face it head-on without hesitation.

The natural tendency of many people is to deny that they have a problem caused by fear of some kind. They would rather pretend that everything thing is okay. The reason in most times is that they are afraid of confronting it. In turn, it becomes a major source of stress, unhappiness, and unnecessary worry.

Be willing to deal with the situation or person directly. This will give you ample time to focus on other important matters without worrying about things that may even be irrelevant.

As Shakespeare said, “Take arms against a sea of troubles, and in so doing, end them.” This is so true and compliments the law of reversibility.

When you force yourself to face any fear-inducing situation in your life, your self-esteem goes up, your self-respect increases, and your sense of personal pride grows.

You eventually reach the point in life where you are not afraid of anything. That is the beginning of your happiness. You will be able to overcome any obstacle that may come your way. You will also be leading a health life as there will be less stress and unnecessary worries.
